Dear ones,
A short note today. I finally finished the essay I’d been plugging away at for a couple weeks, but putting the final touches on that took up my normal weekly newsletter writing time. I’m entering the ‘personal style/taste’ discourse, very belatedly, to talk about class and gender and subculture. It was fun to write! I’ll post it on Monday. I also recorded a bonus convo about love, love addiction, love in/and social movements (and much more) with writer Sarah Jaffe, so stay tuned for that too!
Otherwise the week has been busy with classes (they’re going really well) and navigating health (P’s having a rough chemo week, I am having a rough fibroid week). The work weeks are really a blur, when classes are in session, with bare minimum sanity-maintaining routines (exercise, cleaning), keeping on top of class prep and student emails, and fitting in writing. I have almost no time to help out with Rhizome (our anarchist social center of which I'm a collective member), and have very little capacity to show up for friendships and family. I am reflecting a lot, again/as always, on the trade-offs we have to make when we choose one path over another. I love teaching and a stable paycheck, I do not love feeling stressed and abandonment guilt.
Someday, someday we will have better choices to make.
Links, lists, recommendations below as usual. I love you.
