recs & reviews
a unique take on male loneliness, my review of BUGONIA, a Lefty musician I'm digging, & more!
Dear friends,
Where did this year go? I am facing the last full month of classes and digging into the final (for real this time!) stage of book edits, and also maintaining this newsletter; these three jobs alone would be enough to keep my plate full, but I’m also juggling a handful of other gigs, which means for the next month or so, these notes will likely remain short. I am planning my two annual end-of-year roundups (pop culture & personal), so stay tuned for those, but as for the weekly dose of Reading/Watching/Listening, don’t expect much above the paywall until after the manuscript is out. I’m very grateful to my paid subscribers who will still get so much writing/thinking/curation every week. I spend a lot of time on these! Consider becoming a paid subscriber!
Below! Reading recs on birding, male loneliness reflections from a porn historian, a gorgeous essay from indigiqueer writer Billy-Ray Belcourt, and more; my review of Bugonia (!!!); a new-to-me Lefty Ozark musician rec; and a bunch of things that brought me joy this week.
I hope you are finding small miracles in your orbit, I hope you are co-creating them by being there for your people and letting your people be there for you. <3
love & solidarity,
