su-su-su-summertime, summertime sadness.
a quick note about a moody week | + Hit Man, nostalgic twee, and more <3
Dear ones,
I have had a week of attempting to dive back into my book manuscript and also write a more substantive essay for the newsletter, which means the note today is short! Mood-wise & vibe-wise, the week was funky: I traversed a rollercoaster of still-healing from surgery, some incredibly beautiful moments with friends and food and nature (details below), my ominous summer-SAD, and a mix of good writing days and very bad writing days. I know ~dissociate~ is an annoyingly overused word these days, but I have been doing a bit more of lately, which feels both world news (genocide, ecocide, and so on)-related, and also a symptom of the inevitable summer transition blues I experience every year. Also, my research for this book makes me feel a little bananas (reading about very bad iterations of feminism gets me REALLY BUMMED).
Anyway! I’m starting to write like this is my old Livejournal so I’m gonna quit while I’m ahead.
The links/recs/lists below: a smart forum on “The Future of Neurodiversity,” plus Balkan anarchists on the nationalism question, sex workers and the beauty industry, and more reading recs. Also, my capsule review of Hit Man (didn’t love it!), a gloriously nostalgic Scottish twee album rec, and more on those dreamy cute things from my week…..
