I'm so happy you're on the other side of this (at least, on the other side of the surgery--obviously the medical trauma will be there for a while). Thank you for writing this. I also have a fibroid and have been told next to nothing about what to do. Granted, I don't have symptoms like you did (yet). I truly hate how our "health care" doesn't give a shit about trying to prevent things. Ugh. Anyways, thank you again for writing this! Sending you healing vibes.
thank you for writing such difficult things with power and clarity and as always your attention to the relationship between the personal and political, individual and systemic. i wish you deep recovery.
Oof, Raechel -- this is such a wrenchingly detailed account of all the fuckery we go through to get BASIC MEDICAL CARE. I'm really glad you're (hopefully) on the mend. Get that rest!
Sending you love and healing vibes 💕 It can be so hard to push through medical/institutional trauma we may carry to advocate for our needs and get the help we need and I’m proud of you for doing it! I swear it’s always a struggle.
Thank you for sharing Raechel. Kimberly Nicole Foster shared about her recent myomectomy (here on Substack, highly recommend). It is comforting to hear people’s experiences as we are often not fully informed by doctors, especially of the emotional impacts ❤️
“Blessed are the sharers of experience; blessed are the battle-scarred posters of the health messageboards who give us care.”
And blessed are you, Raechel, for using your painful experience to validate and educate us.
